Playing cards are most commonly used for playing card games, also used in magic tricks, card throwing and card houses otherwise it may also be collected. Let us know about some unknown facts on them.


1.CARDS AS CALENDAR

In some way cards are mostly corresponds to a calendar due to following reasons:

2 colors: The two colors red and black in cards represents the day and night.

4 suits: The four suits in deck of cards corresponds to four seasons such as spring, winter, autumn and summer.

12 courts: 12 court cards correspond to 12 months in a year.

52 cards: 52 cards represent the 52 weeks in a year

And finally, If you add up the all values of cards assigning jack as 11, queen as 12 and king as 13 with one joker as 1, you will end up with the answer of 365 which is equal to number of days in a year. If you add up with one more extra joker it is equal to 366, which is 1 extra day you will got in a leap year.

2.VERSIONS:

The currently used playing cards were the French versions, that spreads worldwide over the past two centuries only. Before that other countries were developed their own decks and own suits.

5.SUICIDE KING:

King of hearts is considered to be a SUICIDE KING, because If you took a closer look of king of hearts his sword pierces through his head. This action made him more different from other kings. But it is completely wrong. He is actually supposed to be raising the sword for battle. Due to some printing errors it looks like that way.

6.COURTS:

The cards which shows the face are known as Face cards. All face cards are known as Courts which means kings, queens and jacks are the courts in the deck


7.POSSIBLE ARRANGEMENTS:

There are more ways to arrange a deck by shuffle which is more than number of atoms in the world. The exact number of arrangements possible in the shuffle is 8 followed by 67 zeroes.

8.HIGHEST CARD:

Ace of cards also known as spadille or death card is the highest card among all. Because the ace of spades symbol is used to be a tax stamp on England imprinted on decks. So that the buyers could prove that they paid taxes on them.

9.SHUFFLES:

HINDU SHUFFLE- Shuffler holding full deck in one hand and quickly drawing the random packets of cards into palm of other hand.

RIFFLE SHUFFLE- Shuffler splits up the deck into two halves and held next to one another in each hand and thumb finger inwards, releasing the cards interweave one another.

FARRO SHUFFLE- It is a special type of shuffle used by magicians and card experts. 8 perfect Farro shuffles made the decks to be arranged in a order.

10.JACKS ARE KNAVES:

Jacks were previously called as knaves which was changed in 1864 due to avoid confusion in card abbreviations. The abbreviation for knave is ‘ Kn’ which is similar to ‘ K’ used for kings.
